New Higher Drama – Level 6

We are very proud to share with you our most recent success with results from 2014-2015 diet.  Our pupils undertook the first presentation to Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) for New Higher Drama.  All 22 pupils presented at this level achieved a Grade A.  This is a huge accomplishment for both staff and pupils alike.  Not only 100% pass rate but an unheard of 100% pass rate at the best possible grade.  Congratulations to our Drama department and our pupils!

The new Higher Drama is comprised of three Units. The course uses an integrated approach to learning; which develops practical skills as well as knowledge and understanding of drama.

Unit 1: Drama Skills The pupils will apply complex drama skills and develop ways of communicating thoughts and ideas to an audience. They will learn how to respond to stimuli, including text. They will also learn how to portray character in a range of ways and explore form, structure, genre and style when creating and presenting drama. The pupils will learn how to evaluate their own progress and that of other learners. They will engage in a range of practical tasks and written folio pieces; these will form the assessable outcomes for this unit.

Unit 2: Production Skills In this Unit, the pupils will explore and apply complex production skills. Pupils will learn how to respond to stimuli, including text, to communicate ideas for a production. They will develop ideas and production skills within their two chosen production roles. They will engage in a range of practical tasks and written folio pieces; these will form the assessable outcomes for this unit.

Unit 3: Added Value Unit Learners will draw on, extend and apply the skills they have learned during the Course. This will be assessed through a performance and a question paper. The performance will require each candidate to present two acting roles; to be marked by an external SQA examiner. The SQA written exam in April will take the form of one textual analysis and one performance analysis.
