Science Department - S1 - S3
St. Margaret’s High School

S1/S2

In S1/S2, science is taught to each class, by a single teacher, in a 12 week rotation as part of their Broad General Education (BGE).  The science units in the course are derived from materials collated by NLC’s CfE reference group. They are mostly aligned to the Third level Experiences & Outcomes (E&O’s) and are the work of a collaborative approach to unpacking the E&O’s, auditing the provision used previously and building on this. In recent years the faculty has developed these materials further; including integrating scientific skills development in the additional time allocated to S1 science. Unit guides recognise opportunities for active learning, AifL, and interdisciplinary links.
